Katie Carter wins 2012 Portland Tribune/ Comcast Spelling Bee
Home-schooler Katie Carter correctly spelled “materialize” and “irascible” to win Saturday’s 2012 Portland Tribune/Comcast Regional Spelling Bee. Carter, 12, a seventh-grader, represents Village Home School in Garden Home (correction: Beaverton and NE PDX). This was her second time competing in the regional bee. Last year, Carter came in fifth in the contest. The runner-up was 13-year-old home-schooler Ellie Phillips [Village Home student].
