French I Blog

Instructor permission required for mid-year enrollment.

Vive la France! The goal of this class is to provide learners with an introduction to the French language that includes basic grammar and the development of conversation, reading, listening and writing skills. Class activities will include lots of opportunities to practice vocabulary and pronunciation. We will also spend time exploring French culture through art, history, food, films and music.

French I - Spring term

Bonjour, mes étudiants! It’s time for us to start another term full of lots of French and fun! I hope you found a little time over the break to review the vocabulary and grammar that we learned last term. We will spend our first meeting reviewing a lot, but then we will jump into something new. 

The syllabus remains the same as the one you received at the beginning of the year. It serves as an overview of the topics I hope to cover this year. As always, much of what we cover depends on how quickly the class moves through the material.

Please remember to bring your handouts to class. Remember, it is a good idea to have a binder to keep them in – they serve as your “book” for class.

If you have any questions, please let me know. “Ma porte” (my door) is always open! You can reach me at deborah.mueller@villagehome.org.

À demain! (See you tomorrow!)

French I

Bonjour, mes étudiants (my students)! It’s time to jump back into ‘le français’! I hope you had a chance to review some of your French vocabulary and phrases (or at least take the next couple days to do so!). Make sure you bring your handouts from last term with you – remember, these serve as our “book,” so having them all together and organized in a binder is a great idea. For those of you who are new to the class this term ..bienvenue! (Welcome!) I will have the handouts for you in class.

À mardi! (See you Tuesday!)

French 1 - week 1

Bonjour! I had a great time with your learners this week in our French I class. What a fun group of kids!

During our first meeting, we learned how to introduce ourselves, learned the alphabet in French, and went over the colors in French. Magnifique!

For next week, I challenged your learners to practice the French alphabet and try to put it to the alphabet song. The handout I gave out has the English pronunciation on it, but you can hear the letters here: http://www.languageguide.org/french/alphabet/

À la semaine prochaine!

French I (FOR204) - Bienvenue!

Bonjour! I hope you are all enjoying the last days of “l’été” and all of this beautiful sunshine. Next week, your learners and I begin our French journey together and I am looking forward to it very much. I have attached an overview (syllabus) of the topics I hope to cover this year. Much of what we cover depends on how quickly the class moves through the material, so our goals may change as I get to know your learners.

If you have any questions, please let me know. “Ma porte” (my door) is always open! You can reach me at deborah.mueller@villagehome.org.

À la semaine prochaine! (See you next week!)

-Deborah Mueller

PS: Please note that each learner should bring a 3-ring binder to class.
